This is a replica of what is known as an “Annam shibori-te” tea bowl. It has a semi-cylindrical shape with a strongly flared lower section, but the rim is pressed down on three sides to form a smooth triangular shape, and the large footring is also cut away on three sides to create a split footring. The body is made of semi-porcelain, and a transparent glaze with yellowish craquelure is applied over the entire surface, leaving the area inside the footring exposed.
Dragonfly motifs are painted on three sides of the body, while blue-and-white decoration flows around the rim and the base, along with horizontal lines, creating the so-called “shibori-te” effect. Furthermore, a design of a Chinese child is depicted in fine line work at the center of the interior. The interior of the exposed clay base is coated with a thin layer of iron glaze, and the mark “Eiraku” is stamped at the center of the base.
The lid of the accompanying box bears the inscription “Dragonfly Painting, Annam-yaki Tea Bowl” on the front and “Made by Zengoro” on the back.
