This tea bowl has a semi-cylindrical body that rises straight up, but the rim is undulated and curves inward. It features a small, low foot, and the section from the middle of the bowl to the foot is flat. A thick glaze covers the entire piece, revealing a vermilion glaze over the surface. However, likely due to the high firing temperature, the vermilion glaze has run along the edges of the black glaze, and the black glaze lacks overall smoothness. A mark is stamped at the base of the body, but it is indistinct due to the thick glaze. There is a tea stain on the interior, and three firing marks remain on the foot. On the underside of the box lid, Chokusai has inscribed: “One piece of black tea bowl by Chokusai, Wahi-sa (signature).”
