Sanyu: tea bowl, known as “Mamakibune”, Black Raku

Height: 8.4 cm, Mouth Diameter: 11.0 cm, Foot Diameter: 5.1 cm
Although the form of this tea bowl is reminiscent of Chōjirō, the entire body is adorned with thick horizontal lines arranged in a kasuri-like pattern. The round base features a small yet distinctly angular foot characteristic of the Left-Entry style, and the interior of the foot is shallowly and flatly carved.
The interior is deep, and a double tea pool has been carved into the bottom.
The black glaze covering the entire bowl has a rough, unglazed texture on parts of the exterior, while the rest is well-fused and glossy. This tea bowl is also one of the “200 Sairyu” pieces; Jushinsai inscribed it with “Shinshu” (signature), and on the lid, Sairyu noted “One of the 200, Raku Sairyu Seal.”
