Height: 7.8 cm, Mouth Diameter: 10.7 cm, Foot Diameter: 5.1 cm
Raku Museum
This is a well-balanced tea bowl with a gentle, harmonious form. The inward-curving rim clearly reveals Tokui’s characteristic style. The interior is spacious, the foot is somewhat large, the base is flat, and the indentation inside the foot is shallow. A flat indentation has been made on the side of the foot, where a seal mark has been applied; however, as it is a smudged mark covered by glaze, the impression is not clearly discernible. The glaze covering the entire piece is smooth, well-fused, and glossy, and three brushstrokes remain on the foot’s base. On the underside of the inner box lid, Seisai Sōsa of the Omotesenke school has inscribed: “Tokunari Black Tea Bowl, Inscription: Tokiwa (Seal).”
