There is some warping at the edges, but this is a very well-made tea bowl. The foot is wide as usual, and the carving inside the foot is shallow. The carving marks swirl and flow, creating a rather challenging design. However, the highlight of this tea bowl is the ever-changing glaze surface.
The persimmon-colored glaze is dotted with numerous bubbles, as is customary. In some areas, it appears pale purple, while in others, it takes on a deep sheep’s yellow hue, creating an indescribably elegant landscape. It resembles the flowing water of a curved stream weaving through rocks and trees, intertwining light and shadow, hence the name “Curved Stream Banquet.” On one side of the interior, the glaze that was left behind when the glaze was applied with a brush, forming crescent-shaped gaps, adds an extra layer of interest.
This glaze shows white pools near the high foot, indicating that it is the same feldspar glaze used for the well.
