Tannyũ: tea bowl, known as “Ake-kure”, Red Raku

Height: 12.5 cm, Mouth Diameter: 10.7 cm, Foot Diameter: 4.9 cm
This bowl bears the same imperial seal as the Red Tea Bowl, Inscription: “Hanasuri-e,” stamped on the side of the foot, but compared to the Red Tea Bowl, Inscription: “Hanasuri-e,” this piece features more elaborate detailing. The rim is shaped with varying heights, the body is adorned with a wide, flared base, and the foot is compact and well-defined, with a low hood-shaped rim inside the foot. From the waist to the foot, a rich, white clay is visible, while the rest is covered with a transparent glaze over a deep ochre base; however, firing variations appear on the exterior, creating a vivid effect. The bottom of the box bears a handwritten note by Taniri, and on the underside of the lid, Gen’en-sai has written: “Red Tea Bowl, made by Taniri, titled ‘Meigure,’ Seichu (signature).”
