The rim, featuring a gentle five-peak profile, is thin and curved inward—a signature style of Kōnyū—and the base of the bowl is slightly tapered. The small, circular footring has a wide base, with the clay exposed both inside and outside the footring. A portion of the body features a white-glazed pattern, while the black glaze applied elsewhere melts beautifully.
Inside the footring is stamped with the “retired official” seal bearing the characters “Tokugawa Yorinori,” and the ‘Torojin’ seal is stamped on the side of the footring, indicating that this work was created after the artist turned sixty-three. On the underside of the box lid, Seisai has inscribed: “Made by Kōnyū, Black Tea Bowl, Inscription: First Cherry Blossoms, Left (Signature).”
