This cylindrical tea bowl features a thin rim that curves slightly inward and a rounded midsection; it is nearly identical in shape to the black tea bowl inscribed “Baika.” Six marks of varying sizes are scattered across the body, with the areas around them left unglazed; the inside and outside of the footring are coated with a very thin glaze, just like the black tea bowl inscribed “Baika”; the entire piece is covered in black glaze, though the application is somewhat uneven, and a curtain glaze is visible on the inside. On the underside of the box lid, Seisai has written: “Black tea bowl by Kichizaemon, several marks, inscribed ‘Hōrai-sa’ (signature).”
