Cylindrical vessels, slightly narrow in the center of the piece and slightly outward toward the top and bottom, were fired in kilns in various locations from the beginning to the middle of the Muromachi period. Some have suggested that it was used as a water jar, but the rather old date of production and the small size of each piece make the water jar theory difficult to accept. This vessel is made of grayish-white clay and is water-ground, with a carved base. The body has a single sunken line, as is customary for this type of vase.
It was probably made around the beginning of the 15th century.
