　The inscription on the back reads “Grandmother Kaftokoro, Late Eisho 9 Uzuki, Kato Kuchikage” and is one of what is commonly known as grandmother kaicha. In the 16th century, the shape of the tea pot changed to one with a strong shoulder tension and an inward leaning oral part, as shown in this vessel. The clay is gray and of grandmother’s bosom clay. The base is made of gray grandmother clay, ground thinly, and the underside is ground to the left in a clockwise direction. The oil layer is thin, and the body is covered with a blackish-brown Kosedo glaze, but the glaze is remarkably uneven.
