During the peak period of the Koseto ware from the end of the Kamakura period (1185-1333) to the Nanbokucho period (1392-1333), large vases over 30 cm high and small vases like this one were produced in small quantities, along with the common plum vases of 25 cm high and later . The round-shouldered, stubby shape has a small band at the mouth and a thicker band on the lower half. The seal and flower design on the entire surface is characteristic of this period. The camellia design on the shoulder is the main design, with a small rounded sword-tip design on the upper part and a taller rounded sword-tip design and twenty-six circles stitched on the lower half.
