This is one of the most common forms of sutra-tube outer container, one of the specialties of the Atsumi Kiln. This general type was originally modeled after the Koshu-kiln lidded cylindrical vessels, and the more ancient the style, the more bowl-shaped the lid and the more bulging the body.
The more ancient they were, the more bowl-shaped the lid and the more bulged the body, and then gradually changed to cylindrical vessels like the former. It is made of high-quality grayish-white clay, and the molding is extremely careful.
