This is a greatly exaggerated version of an ancient general type of sutra tube outer vessel from the Atsumi Kiln.
The lid is bowl-shaped with a two-tiered band and knob in the shape of a three-storied pagoda. The body has a band around the lid and the center of the body, and the bottom is one size larger than the rest of the body. The clay is grayish-white and dense, and the molding is very careful.
The body is partially covered with a natural glaze of the color of decayed leaves.
It is accompanied by a copper sutra tube and a sutra scroll.
