13th century
Height 13.2 cm, mouth diameter 36.3 cm, bottom diameter 17.4 cm
Relatively few examples of grinding bowls from the Atsumi kiln are known. This piece, which has been carefully crushed and joined, is noteworthy as an exquisite example of a large bowl. It is thinly made for its size, and has three one-sided openings along the rim. It does not have a stand, and judging from the technique of attaching the mouths on three sides, it is thought to have been made in the latter half of the 13th century.
