Ooguro

Important cultural property. A masterpiece. Raku ware tea bowl, black, by Chojiro, one of the seven Rikyu inscriptions. It was named “Daikoku” in contrast to “Koguro” because it is a large black tea bowl. It is considered to be the most outstanding tea bowl among Chojiro’s works. It was owned by Rikyu, and passed down to Shoan and Sotan, and then to Goto Kosai, Esen Soza, and Mitsui Josada, and later to the Konoike family. (Kokin Meimono Ruiju, Raku ware Meimono Chawan Shu, Taisho Meikikan)
