Katamigawari
Katamigawari

A vessel with two halves that are different in tone. The half-body may be raw or overcooked, one half may be oxidized and the other half reduced, or one half may have ash fall in the kiln, causing it to have a different tone. These were originally produced by accident during the firing process, but later there were pieces that were consciously and technically produced as kata-mimeshi, with half of the body painted with different colored glazes or paints, and the other half dyed with iron or white mud. All of these are called kata-mimi-swaps.
