A fellow retainer of the Ashikaga Shogunate. Grandson of Noami. Birth year unknown. Last name Nakao, first name Shinso. He had the titles of Ganryaku and Shosetsusai. Son of Shin’ei (Geami), he succeeded to the position of karamono magistrate after his death and served the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa Yoshinao Yoshinobu. Like his father, he excelled at tableware and paintings, and excelled in the study of Chinese objects. He worked to manage the shogun’s collection and repair new acquisitions, wrote external titles for many items, and supplemented and completed the “Kimidai Kanjo Choki” (Record of the Right and Left of Kimidai). The Tohoku University edition of the same book has an inscription that reads, “Eisho 8 (1511) juugatsu 16 jitsujo shinso” (The True Story of October 16), and the “Goshikisho” also written by him has an inscription that reads, “Right this one volume is for Yoshinobu no ko no gyo ni,” and “Oei 3 (1523) jitsujo ganzake shinso” (The True Story of November 1523). This book is extremely valuable for its detailed description of the actual decoration of the Tozan-den room, especially the illustrations. He died in 1525 (Oei 5) at the age of 70.
