Persian ceramics with colored glazes similar to the Chinese Tang Sansai. In addition to blue and green with copper coloring and yellowish brown with iron, manganese purple was often used. The glaze was also applied after carving an arabesque floral pattern on the base and applying a white overlay. Although there is a theory that Persian tricolor originated from Tang tricolor, the idea of combining blue, brown, and yellow glazes is rather unique to the Orient. The origin of the three-color technique can be traced to the Orient, as brick decorations combining the three colors were already widely used on the walls of the city gate of Babylon in the 6th century B.C. and the palace walls of Susa in the 5th century B.C.
