16th century
Height 24.4 cm, mouth diameter 6.4 cm, body diameter 22.3 cm, bottom diameter 14.2 cm
This is an unusual example with a stable, spherical body and a small mouth neck, and should be considered a vase rather than a jar. There is a bulging step slightly below the edge of the mouth, which is reminiscent of the neck of a plum vase. There are currently no other examples of this type, so it is difficult to trace its lineage, but judging from its wide-bottomed body, it must have been made in the 16th century or so. It is marked on the shoulder with the Echizen signature “10”.
