It is still not known where this jar, which was passed down to the Inatomi Shrine, was fired. From its form, it is probably related to late Heian period ash-glazed four-foot jars, but it has not been seen in Seto, Tokoname, or other Tokai kilns in the medieval period. It may be a phantom of the Ise kilns. The hills to the west of Inatomi-jinja Shrine are the area where the largest group of Sue ware kiln sites of the Kofun period were distributed in Ise, and in the Nara and Heian periods, they were succeeded by the adjacent Tokui ancient kiln site group. Considering this history of ceramic production, an unknown medieval kiln may exist in this vicinity.
