While Bizen began to produce tea ceremony ceramics before the other ceramic centers around the time of the astronomical period, there are few examples of Muromachi period tea ceremony ceramics in Tamba, although they were produced in close proximity to Bizen. This bucket was probably influenced by Bizen and was probably fired as a water jar in the very early stages of production. The entire surface of the bowl is shaped with a vertical comb, and the wavy lines of the comb may be intended as a kind of decorative effect.
There is an X mark a little below the mouth rim. The reddish-brown surface is covered with a dark green natural glaze, which has several undercurrents and adds to the scenery. It is a rare early example of Tamba tea ceremony ware. There is a ring-shaped burn mark on the underside of the base, or a burn mark made by overlaying other vessels.
