This tea caddy has a stacked body with a low, open mouth and stacked shoulders. The front of the body is unglazed to reveal a line carving pattern, over which a feldspar glaze is applied. A similar technique is used for black oribe tea bowls, but the glaze is browned. It was handed down from Nishi Honganji Temple, and the label on the back of the lid reads, “Dedicated to the relics of the priest of Echizen Yotokuji Temple, early September in the third year of the Bo era,” indicating that it was fired during the Keicho and Genna periods.
