Tanakamaru Collection
This is a tea bowl similar to Kurooribe, one of the Kutsukatagata tea bowls. The mouth is thick, the body is tightened, and the low base is carved out of a wide tatami mat to create a double height style. The mouth is covered with iron pigments and six flying birds are painted on the flat surface. The glaze on the interior and exterior is quite thick, with small and large penetrations, and the glaze is softly baked. The base of the bowl shows a fine clay skin with high iron content, and the mark “ー” is engraved inside the base and the mark “×” is engraved on the side of the base, which is also often seen on black Oribe tea bowls.
