This is a so-called “Tabimakura” style vase. The mouth is in the ubakuchi-style, the mouth and bottom are rounded, and the body is pressed on all four sides to form a petted square shape. Three long, short, horizontal spatula carvings are carved under the shoulder, but this artifice tightens the monotonous cylindrical shape and, together with the scenic sesame glaze applied to the firing, makes the work extraordinary. This Bizen ware traveling pillow is probably one of the few examples of its kind. The back of the pillow has a can, and the hole with a can on the front is filled in.
