This is a variant of a chochin, of which there are very few examples. The small mouth and neck are similar to those of ancient style choke vases, but the floating decoration on the shoulders is a degenerate form of annular ears, and the comb-teeth design between the two side strips does not date back to the latter half of the 6th century. The clay is a yellowish-white sandy clay, well fired, with a yellowish-brown natural glaze on the shoulder and inner circle. The sides near the bottom are dotted with reddish brown.
There are currently only a few examples of annular jar vases found in Hiroshima Prefecture, and they are considered to be a type of variant Sue ware with a rich local flavor.
