The center of the prospect shows a design of peonies and lions, and the three sides of the interior are decorated with a frame of underglaze blue, with a design of radishes and carrots on a red ground. This is one of the auspicious designs, but this type of design is extremely rare. The inner rim is decorated with a cherry blossom river design in red and underglaze blue, while the outer rim is decorated with a Chinese flower design on three sides, with a cloisonne motif in between. The arabesque design in underglaze blue on the outside of the base is common with other underglaze blue wares of the mid-Ming dynasty. The arabesque design in underglaze blue on the exterior of the base is a band pattern common to underglaze blue wares of the mid-Ming dynasty. The inscription “Made in the year of the Daming Dynasty” is inscribed within a double circle on the inside of the base. It was recently imported from the Netherlands, but it is not clear whether it was exported in the 17th century or came to Japan after the Meiji period.
