This is a copy of the Fuyote porcelain mass-produced in China at the end of the Ming Dynasty, and is representative of the export porcelain ordered in large quantities from the late 1660s to the 1670s in Japan. The initials “V, O, and C” appear in the estimated circular window, which stands for “Vereenigde Oost-indische Compagnie”. This type of underglaze blue ware has been excavated from the Ootaru and Sarukawa kiln sites in Arita, so these two kilns were probably the main kilns that fired this type of export porcelain. This is the best of the Fuyote large dishes with the “V.O.C.” mark. The reverse side is unmarked.
