Height 3.6 cm, mouth diameter 15.5 cm, base diameter 7.9 cm
This is an excellent piece of old Nabeshima celadon underglaze blue ware. The leaves are covered with celadon glaze, and the ground is decorated with a design of a gaily pattern in sumi-hajime (black and white) overglaze blue. The three sides of the reverse side have windows decorated with chrysanthemum patterns in the style of Chinese flowers, and the space between the windows is filled with blue ocean waves, and the base is decorated with a thunderbolt motif. The shape of the vessel and the sumi-resist pattern are characteristic of the Nabeshima domain kilns, and it is thought to have been made by Minamikawawara. The base is slightly distorted.
