While the previous piece is a typical Japanese design, this piece has an unusual design that reflects the taste for red hair. The green ground is decorated with purple spade shapes on all four sides, and within the spade shapes, hearts are scattered in white. Four cranes are placed in the center, and between the spades, four cranes are also placed in a slightly smaller size with white and yellow coloring, creating an outstandingly vivid color scheme. It was probably produced between the Kanbun and Genroku periods. The roughly arranged stylized peony arabesque design on the reverse side is also rare, and the inscription “Gorotayu” is written inside a double square in the base and covered with green glaze.
