Jiaozi Bowl with Flying Phoenix Design
Jiaozi Bowl with Flying Phoenix Design

Height: 9.3 cm, Mouth Diameter: 17.0 cm, Base Diameter: 7.2 cm
This bowl is of nearly the same type as the previous three, but features a different design. As before, the outer design is rendered with raised lines, while the inner design is carved. On the outer two sides, large phoenixes are depicted in yellow glaze, accompanied by flying clouds in blue glaze, with floral arabesques in white and purple glaze arranged between them. On the inner three sides, cloud patterns are carved, and in the center of the interior, a flying crane is depicted within a circle. The body is covered entirely in a bluish-green glaze, while the interior of the footring is coated in white glaze. The footring is left unglazed, revealing fine-grained white clay, and the mark “永楽” (Yongle) is stamped at the center of the footring’s interior. On the lid of the accompanying box, “交趾焼丼鉢” (Jiaozhi-yaki Donburi Bowl) is inscribed on the front, and “印 保全造” (Mark: Hozon-zō) is inscribed on the back.
