These nested cups are modeled after Raku-yaki’s Shimadai nested tea bowls, but by applying a yellow glaze to the smaller cup and a purple glaze to the larger one, they bring out the unique flavor of Jōzen’s Jiaozhi-style ware, distinct from the original. Gold decoration is applied over the yellow glaze, and silver paste is brushed over the purple glaze. Both pieces bear a small “Eiraku” seal on the side of the foot, and the accompanying box is inscribed with “Shimadai Cup” on the lid’s exterior and “Seal: Zen’gorō (signature)” on the lid’s interior.
