This is a round-faced inkstone made of Sue ware. The inkstone shows a degenerate decorative technique for a round-faced inkstone, with a high base in relation to its diameter and watermarks on only four sides, with only three sunken lines in between. The upper surface is slightly concave at the periphery, but the border between the two is not clear. The high border of the inkstone’s perimeter in relation to the land is another characteristic of this type of inkstone from the newer period. This inkstone is a good example of a round-faced inkstone from the Tohoku region.
