Black Tea Bowl, Inscribed “Shinonome,” by Ichinyu

Height: 7.9 cm, Mouth Diameter: 10.0 cm, Foot Diameter: 4.4 cm
The body stands straight, with a uniform rim, and features a rounded lower section; this is a typical Ichinyu piece modeled after the so-called Rikyu-style Chojiro tea bowl. The compact, well-proportioned footring is rounded, with a subtle kabuto-ginu (helmet-shaped) design carved into the interior, and three glaze marks remain on the footring’s base. The glaze covering the entire piece has melted well and is lustrous, with red glaze appearing on one side of the body and part of the interior. On the underside of the box lid, there is an inscription in the calligraphy style of Yutaku: “Ichinyu-saku Kurochawan Shinonome (signature).”
