This is a generously sized flat tea bowl featuring a rim with varying heights, a slightly tapered body, and a flared lower section. The base features Sōnyū’s characteristic wide, folded footring, with incised patterns encircling the footring. Furthermore, the addition of thick incised lines on three sides of the footring, along with the incised patterns on the sides, reflects a style modeled after Chōjirō. The glaze covering the entire surface is a sand glaze, with variations in the ochre tones creating visual interest; beneath the glaze on the interior, deep fire-change patterns are clearly visible. Ryoryo-sai has inscribed the following: “Sōnyū-made Red Flat Tea Bowl, ‘Seigaiha’ No. Left (Seal).”
