Height: 9.5 cm, Mouth Diameter: 90 cm, Foot Diameter: 5.2 cm
This is a tall, cylindrical tea bowl with undulating contours at the rim and a slightly inward-curving body. The glaze is thickly applied over the entire surface, resulting in a pale red raku finish with a whitish hue. The footring is wide, similar to that of the Red Tea Bowl inscribed “Friend of the Night’s Cold,” with incised patterns running along the sides of the footring. A swirl-shaped hood pattern is carved into the interior of the footring, and three tool marks remain on the footring’s surface. On the side of the foot, Kyūkōsai has written in vermilion lacquer, “Yakan no Tomo, Left (seal mark),” in his own hand. He has also inscribed “Red Cylindrical Tea Bowl by Sōnyū, Yakan no Tomo, Kyūkō” on the underside of the box lid.
