Height: 8.3 cm, Mouth Diameter: 11.9 cm, Foot Diameter: 5.3 cm
This semi-cylindrical tea bowl features undulating lines at the rim, a squared-off midsection, and a powerful, open form at the top. It is mounted on a flat, low foot with distinct ridges and a stepped base; the interior of the foot is shallowly carved. The black glaze applied over the entire piece is thick, resulting in a coarser glaze texture compared to Sōnyū’s kaseglaze, with a thin layer of vermilion glaze appearing on parts of the exterior. Three marks remain on the folded rim of the foot. Ryōryōsai has inscribed the box with the following: “Black tea bowl by Sanyū, titled ‘Kankyo,’ signed ‘S’ (seal).”
