There are two types of Kosedo incense burners: incense burners like this one and cylindrical incense burners, both with ash glaze and iron glaze. The Kosedo incense burners have recently been pointed out as the ancestors of the Hisha incense burner, which has existed since the Heian period (794-1185).
The clay used for this piece is slightly iron-rich, and it is water-ground and molded with a sealed flower sword-tip design stamped on the face. It is thought to have been made between the end of the Kamakura period and the Nanbokucho period (1644-1644), as the oral part is inside and the tripod is degenerated.
