This is one of the finest stone crater vases. The word “crouch” is probably derived from the shape of the small neck resting on a large, rounded shoulder. It is made of Shigaraki’s unique coarse clay with pebbles, and is rolled up and molded with clay strings. The shoulder is covered with a yellowish green sesame sprinkle natural glaze on the unevenly fired surface, which is half light red and half brown.
