This jar was excavated as a bone ware, and the combination of a jar and a mortar can be found throughout Japan. The ground bowl has a flat bottom and flat rim, and the inner surface is sparsely grated with a comb. The jar is valuable as a chronological standard because it has a broad rim band with the mouth rim folded back.
