Chojiro: tea bowl, Black Raku

Chojiro: tea bowl, Black Raku

Height 8.0cm, Bowl diameter 10.8cm, Stand diameter 5.5cm
This is a thin tea bowl similar to the “Shunkan”, but the mouth has almost no embrace, the body is slightly tightened, the waist is bent tightly, and there is a large tea bowl with a large tea bowl in front of the eyes. The sides of the bowl have spatula marks, and the low base has been rounded off, with the tatami-style tatami mats being rounded off. The glaze over the entire surface has been melted well and is particularly black and smooth among Chojiro’s black tea bowls.
On the back of the inner box lid, Esen Soza inscribed “Rikyu black tea bowl, Chojiro zukuri left (hanasei)”, but there are very few Chojiro’s tea bowls with Esen’s calligraphy. In addition, on the front of the lid, Ryozai wrote “Chojiro ware black tea bowl, Esen Kyoku shouzoku Ari, Left (Hanaseki)”.
