Köetsu: tea bowl, known as "Onjo", Black Raku

Height 9.3 cm, mouth diameter 11.8-12.5 cm, base diameter 5.0 cm
This tea bowl is glazed on the entire surface, and is similar to the “Kamiya” bowl. The rise is higher than that of “Kamiya”, the mouth is held inward, and the base is similar to that of “Otogozen” and “Kamiya”, which also shows the unique artistry of Koetsu.
Red clay is used and covered with an ame glaze. The base is round and has white eye marks around it, as in the “Kamiya”. However, since the style of work is very similar to that of the “Kamiya” copy by Niami Michihachi, some people speculated that it might be a copy of Niami’s. However, when the two are compared, they are different, and it is assumed that it was made by Koetsu. On the cover of the inner box, the name “Enjo” is written in gold-painted letters, and on the cover of the inner box, “Mitsui Temple” is written in pasteboard.
