This is one of the excellent Akaraku tea bowls by Koetsu, but its workmanship is more modest than “Otogozen”, “Bishamondou”, and “Seppou”. It is a rather large tea bowl with a rounded mouth, a rounded ridge at the mouth, a chamfered spatula around the rounded waist, a low base, a slanting outside of the base, and a clear chisel inside the base. The base is low, the outside of the base is slanted, and the inside of the base is clearly cut away. The glaze over the entire surface is thick and melts well, giving it a glassy finish that is unique to Koetsu. This is probably the reason why Koetsu’s glaze has been called “beadlo glaze” since ancient times. On the back of the lid of the inner box, Kakusai Haraso wrote “Koetsu Juoh” (Koetsu: ten kings).
