This is a neat-looking half-tube tea bowl with a tight waist, but it is more formalized than the Shino Hashi-hime tea bowl and the Shinokan Hashi-hime tea bowl. The rounded shape on the side of the high stand is also different from the early tea bowls. The carving around the tatami mats of the tea bowl makes it a so-called “double tea bowl” with a large triangular shape centering on the tea bowl. The body is decorated with a picture of a bridge and a calendar-like pattern, and a grass-like pattern has been added.
If the combination of the bridge and the shrine is considered to be an early example, the design gradually began to change. There seem to be quite a few tea bowls with this kind of design in existence, and I have been able to examine about seven of them, among which “Gojo ‘Bridge’,” “Sumiyoshi” and “Ushiwaka” are the best. This tea bowl is owned by the Fujita family in Osaka. Formerly owned by the Fujita family in Osaka.
