Marbled Shino water jar with two characters reading “Autumn Wind”

Height 18.7 cm, mouth diameter 18.7 cm, bottom diameter 19.0 cm
This is a representative example of a nerikami Shino water jar. The potter’s wheel was made by kneading white clay and red clay together in equal parts. A line is clearly drawn around the mouth, creating a crisp and clear appearance. The mouth is clearly drawn with a single line around the mouth, and a cypress fence-like design is depicted on one side with the inscription, “Wind, Autumn, and Winter” on the other. This type of Neriage-Shino mizusashi is rare, and together with the mizusashi shown in Fig. 146, it is a masterpiece. The oki mark can be seen on the prospective holder, and the flat bottom also shows traces of oki.
