Excavated from Gosho City, Nara Prefecture
6th century
Height 16.5 cm, diameter 33.4 cm, bottom diameter 13.9-14.4 cm
This cup was probably excavated from a burial mound in the Gosho City area. This is a large cup with a step at the junction of the legs and the cup. The “ko-mochi-taka-ceremony cup,” in which many cups are placed on a high cup, is common in Sue ware: but is extremely rare in earthenware. The arrangement of the seven vessels around the cup and two inside is similar to that of Sue ware: and it is clear that it was modeled after the Sue ware Ko-mochi-taka-ceremony cup. It was probably made as a burial accessory for a burial mound.
