This is one of the most basic types of cups, along with jars, since the Yayoi period, and in the 6th century, the ridges at the waist of the upper cup began to disappear and the cup became rounded. This large cup is coated on the interior and exterior surfaces with iron oxide, suggesting that it was used for special purposes such as ceremonial vessels.
