This flower vase has a triangular body with an outward opening at the mouth, and the rim of the vase is distorted in the shape of a mountain path. The mouth opens outward, and the sides of the bowl are sunken in the shape of a mountain path. The triangular shape is typical of Momoyama period vases, of which examples can also be found in Bizen and other areas. The clay surface has numerous white feldspar grains scattered on the surface, and some areas around the base are burnt black. The body is covered with five thin lines of carving, and the bottom is flat. This is one of the best Shigaraki vases, which is thought to have been made in the late Momoyama period. It was once owned by Lord Matsudaira Fumai, and is described in the “Unshu Meimono Chou” (Unshu Meimono Book).
