 Judging from the shape and form of this vase, it was probably not made as a tea ceremony vase, but rather a small seed vase used as a hanging vase, as is reported. The front surface is covered with ash and the clay is dark brown in color. There are fine cracks on the body. It is estimated to have been made in the late Muromachi period (1333-1573). It is a treasured possession of Lord Fumaira Matsudaira, who wrote “Shikaraki korohana-jin” on the front of the box lid.
