This is a rare example of a three-tiered, inflated gourd-shaped tokutari, which is a variant of a gourd. The body is painted with red dobe over the entire surface, and the body is covered with what is commonly called “ash-dara” glaze, a mixture of iron and ash. The ash-dara glaze is partly transformed into a blue sea-green color, enhancing the appearance.
