This is a small jar-shaped incense burner with a drop-down lid with a hole for venting smoke, and an interesting shape with legs in the style of animal feet on three sides around the bottom. The body is decorated with a large peony design in the kabuko-hana style on three sides in a floating pattern, and the floating design is covered with iron glaze. Although it appears to be made of lapis lazuli, it is not glazed with lapis lazuli. It was probably fired in the Hyakumon kiln. There are quite a few other iron-glazed and underglaze blue or lapis lazuli glazed incense burners of this type in the tradition.
